Weekly Word

Summer worship schedule starts May 31
If you come to church May 31 at 9 a.m., there will be no worship happening… yet! We are moving to one morning worship service this summer at the Mission Campus at 10 a.m. After worship, we are hosting half-hour ‘Summer Socials’ in Friendship Hall for people of all ages through July 26. It will be a time to talk about the sermon, learn something new, enjoy a beverage and a snack, and strengthen relationships. There will be different programming each Sunday. The Gathering worship service will still occur at 4 p.m. each week.
Commitment to Community
Last, but not least! In worship Sunday, Pastor Rodger preached about our commitment to others in the last sermon in the “Second Mountain” series. He tied Luke 14:7-14 (the parable about where guests are seated at banquets) to the notion that relationships are sacrificial, not transactional. We don’t offer hospitality to others so that they may return the favor. Our faith calls us to move past individualism toward altruism. If you missed a sermon in this series, find them all HERE.

Village church‘s reach
Beyond our walls
Last week, Lisa Harrison, site coordinator at the Antioch Campus, received a phone call from a woman in Phoenix, Oregon (population 4,500) who wanted to tell us how much she appreciates Village‘s online worship services. In particular, she shared how much she and the six-person congregation at First Presbyterian Church of Phoenix (pictured right) enjoyed Pastor Rodger’s sermon on Mother‘s Day. This small congregation, which is part of the Cascade Presbytery, worships online with us every week. First Phoenix Church may be small, but they are mighty; they operate both a food pantry and a clothes closet. We are so grateful to our Communications and AV teams who make the online worship experience so rich and meaningful for people far beyond Kansas City!
