Shining our light in the Prairie Village Parade!

We had an incredible time Saturday at the City of Prairie Village’s 75th anniversary parade. Carol Solenberger and her team led the effort. Many staff persons collaborated on a terrific float that replicated a mini Village Church—complete with steeple, pews, pulpit, choir, and congregants—pulled by our church van. About 60 members and friends of all ages walked alongside the float handing out treats, while “This Little Light of Mine” played from a speaker. A lot of Village folks cheered us on from Mission Road. Joy Biard, daughter of our founding pastor, Dr. Bob Meneilly, played the role of preacher. Priscilla Wilson, age 95, sat in one of the pews; she had never been in a parade and reported that it was great fun!

May 4 Session Round-Up

Last night at their meeting, the Session:

  • approved an Endowment Trust grant for the purchase of food for the Village Church Food Pantry and Clothes Closet
  • upon the recommendation of the Personnel Committee, approved the sabbatical leave of Rev. Dr. Rodger Nishioka from July 1- Sept. 30
  • reviewed the Mission Campus Sunday worship times (10 a.m. and 4 p.m.) from May 31 to Sept. 6
  • approved the collection of a retiring offering to benefit The Covenant Network of Presbyterians at the July 25 concert offered by First Presbyterian of Davenport, Iowa.

The Second Mountain

We are called to do faith in a way that transforms the world; all of us. This is “second mountain” work, as David Brooks shares in his book of the same name. ‘Apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ.‘ (from Ephesians 4:7-16) The word saints in that sentence means you and me. If you missed a sermon in this series, find them all HERE.

Construction Underway

If you‘ve been at the Antioch Campus in the past week, you noticed things look a lot different! Thanks to your generosity, we are able to begin the Fellowship Hall renovation as a part of the “Here for Good” capital campaign. We begin work on solar panel installation in the next few weeks. Thank you for your early donations so that we can update this space so all feel safe, invited, and at home—a room where we can offer hospitality that reflects the love of Christ.

Let’s stay in touch.
