livestreamED ORGAN RECITAL
Featuring Dr. Bickers
Tomorrow, Wednesday, June 17, at 6:30 p.m. (CST), Dr. Elisa Bickers will offer a solo organ recital at Methuen Memorial Music Hall outside of Boston. Methuen opened in 1909 and is the home of the first concert pipe organ ever built in the United States. This instrument is a “bucket list” organ for most professional American organists; it is a tremendous honor to be invited to perform there.
Dr. Bickers’ program, “Sojourns: In Honor of Juneteenth,” includes pieces that evoke the journey toward a better world, including several moving settings of spirituals. Even though July 4, 1776, marks the adoption of the Declaration of Independence, freedom for the wider population did not occur until Texas’ slaves were freed on June 19, 1865. Watch this special recital from the comfort of your couch on Wednesday evening!
