Weekly Word

Virtue, authority, and other words of faith

Rev. Tom Are, Jr., our former senior pastor preached eloquently last Sunday, July 5 (the day after our nation celebrated 250 years of independence) about virtue, the pursuit of happiness, and the difference between power and authority. At the Antioch Campus, Rev. Alice Whitson preached on the word “pursuit.” If you missed Rev. Are’s sermon, which brought the congregation to their feet, find it on our YouTube Channel, here on our website, download the podcast, or read the transcript.

Music-themed Summer Social this Sunday

We invite everyone to worship at 10 a.m. this Sunday, July 12, at the Mission Campus and to stay for a special, music-themed Summer Social following the service. First, Rev. Dr. Diane Janssen Hemmen will preach on the word “transfiguration.” Then, head to Friendship Hall to play “Name That Tune,” with songs for the whole family. A bonus: There will be prizes!

Operation Breakthrough – For one hour each week, help tutor kids at Operation Breakthrough. Volunteers work one-on-one to assist children with literacy and mathematics. Email Charlotte Davison with questions and to volunteer.

Thank you from Front Porch Alliance! On June 27, we packed about 300 resource bags, consisting of laundry soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, toilet paper, and other products. Village Church members also donated about 30 bikes in June. Front Porch got so many they moved them to a large storage container (see photos below)! They are so grateful for the response and support. green tip of the week

Shop local. Consider shopping at farmers’ markets. Transporting food from far away to grocery stores (and keeping it cool to prevent spoiling) uses lots of energy.
