Weekly Word

This week…

Village was blessed to celebrate Pride Sunday, Pentecost, and the 40th Anniversary of Village’s chapter of Stephen Ministry (yes, all in the same day!). We also had a prayer wall at both campuses for folks to leave prayers—you can still add to the prayer walls if you’re in the building this week.

Coming soon…

New Sermon Series: “Summer of Sin” – June 15-July 27. The Apostle Paul tells us that “all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” It’s true. We are all sinners and in need of God’s forgiveness and grace. Early Christians began to group sins together and by the 6th century, a list of seven sins had emerged. In this series, each of our pastors will explore one of the “deadly sins” even as we give thanks for God’s grace that frees us from sin. This week, Rev. Anna Owens will preach at the Mission Campus.

We all scream for… five decades of ice cream socials! The Ice Cream Social will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday, June 27. Come for ice cream with all the fixings plus hot dogs, popcorn, games, and activities in the north lot. This is a free, family-friendly event—your neighbors and friends are invited, too! After the event, join us in the Sanctuary at 7 p.m. for the Music & Drama Camp students’ performance of the musical “Malice in the Palace: The Story of Esther.” We’re excited to see the results of their hard work!

Intentionality > Quality

On June 1, we celebrated those folks in the Meneilly Society (named for our founding pastor, Dr. Bob Meneilly) who have chosen to remember Village Church in their estate plans. Many people assume they need to be wealthy to make a bequest or gift to the Endowment Trust. While large gifts certainly help, they are the exception, rather than the rule. The widow’s offering in Luke 21 reminds us that it’s not the size of the gift, but the measure of faith it represents. A gift to the Endowment Trust is appreciated in any amount, at any time. Please contact Bob Sperry, director of Giving and Endowment, 913-671-2325, with questions. Be watching for gatherings this fall to learn more about the Endowment Trust.

Worship Times

9 and 11 a.m. (Sanctuary) and 4 p.m. for the Gathering service (Sanctuary, during Friendship Hall renovation) at the Mission Campus and 9:30 a.m. at the Antioch Campus.

Let’s stay connected.
