The Weekly Word

Team Spirit at the Child & Family Devlopment Center (CFDC)

The CFDC celebrated Super Bowl LIX with a Spirit Week. On Monday, the kids wore mismatched attire. On Tuesday, the staff and kids came in with crazy hair. On Wednesday, they dressed as Taylor Swift or Travis Kelce. Thursday was “hat day.” On Friday, they encouraged everyone to participate in an all-school Red Friday and group photo (above) and enjoyed a “tailgate” lunch with Coach Andy Reid’s favorite: cheeseburgers! The little ones were also treated to Kansas City Chiefs-themed cookies for their Friday snack. Win or lose—We love our city and our staff and students at the CFDC!

An Important Note from Our Session

Responding to Jan. 20, 2025 Executive Order

On Monday, Feb. 3, the Village Church Session approved a policy in response to the Executive Order “Protecting American People Against Invasion” and the new reality that churches are no longer viewed as protected spaces. This policy authorizes members of the Executive Team, the director of the Village Church Food Pantry, and the director and business director of the Village Church Child and Family Development Center to act on behalf of Village Presbyterian Church in any official capacity with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Border Patrol. There will be further training for these persons and all staff. We do not expect ICE agents to enter our buildings but it is best that we be prepared. Bottom line? All persons are welcome and safe with us, period. Read the full statement and policy HERE.

Thanks to your wonderful generosity, $4,338.53 was donated online and after worship services at the Mission and Antioch campuses Sunday morning. The pantry staff will use those dollars to purchase hearty soup at a substantial discount from our grocery partners. Dennis Cobb, director of the Food Pantry, estimates you also donated 1,151 pounds of canned soup this week.

We cannot begin to thank you for your contributions which will go a long way toward helping our neighbors in need. You are the real MVPs!

Flower Ministry – Ever wonder what happens to the flowers after Sunday services? A team of volunteers creates smaller arrangements that are delivered to church members who could use some cheer. We are currently in need of deliverers! If interested, contact Pamela Schneider for more information.

green tip of the week:

Don’t let your home’s air escape! Weatherize all windows and exterior doors to help keep your home comfortable. Updated weatherstripping will prevent energy loss (and save you money). *Village Presbyterian Church is certified as an Earth Care Congregation.

Giving

We are at 88% toward our goal of 800 pledges for 2025. And as Pastor Rodger shared from the pulpit Sunday, compared to last year, pledge giving is up 16%. That is an amazing number. Thank you, Village!
