Praise for Parade Participation!

A poem penned by director of engagement, Carol Solenberger, celebrating the team effort of Village Church staff and volunteers making our May 2026 Prairie Village Parade float and procession a reality.

It started with a newsletter that stated a “parade in P.V.”

And this Engagement gal, and her boss, took that at it “had to be!”

Ideas were floated but when a young, smart women named Madeline spoke

The float was decided: a worship service in action was definitely NO JOKE!

Then hats (the trucker kind), kazoos, glasses, bandanas, and Rice Krispy treats were ordered for the big day

Plans were drawn, trailer was rented, supplies were gathered—this float thing was underway!

But who was going to ride on this float, was the ask. Who was going to be the preacher, sit on the pews?

After word spread, and invitations were out—folks were raising their hands, what did they have to lose?

What was missing? A steeple, yes, music—a must!

The Hulls, Jenny & Brad, had ideas. Alan, Jake, and our dear friend, Milwaukee, made that plan become wow-ity!

A fine co-worker named Nathan, a wise, talented music man provided the sound that made this singing float church service a reality!

poem by Carol Solenberger

Chicken-wire crosses pomped by our preschoolers, pews from the Sanctuary, our church van, choir robes on loan from our Music friends, Dr. Bob’s robe, and 705 years (combined!) of Village Church members singing “This Little Light of Mine” over and over made our parade float come alive and shine bright at the City of Prairie Village’s 75th Anniversary Parade on Mission Road Saturday, May 2!

I’m grateful to those who offered donations, shared ideas and excitement, posted on social media, ironed Village Church trucker hats, created beautiful signs, dressed in 1950s outfits, offered their help, and unwavering support. We worked together to make this float happen. Every time I needed something—a listening ear, an idea, a plan, supplies, encouragement, anything—someone appeared! Thank you for indulging me in this venture. Well done, my Village friends, well done! It was a joy. –Carol Solenberger and the Engagement team
