LofterNews: June Youth Newsletter

Youth Week Recap
Youth Week is always one of our favorite ways to kick off the summer, and this year’s group has been making the most of every minute together. Before our regular summer programming begins, students spent the week reconnecting with friends, welcoming new faces, and building community through a variety of activities. We started the week at Worlds of Fun, followed by a day of pickleball, games, and friendly competition at Chicken N Pickle. Midweek, students served at the Village Community Garden before relaxing with some hammocking at Loose Park. Yesterday, we headed to Longview Lake Beach for an afternoon of swimming, volleyball, snacks, and time together.
Tonight, we’ll wrap up Youth Week with a trip to a Kansas City Monarchs baseball game. While the activities have been a lot of fun, the real highlight has been watching students deepen friendships and reconnect after the school year. We are grateful for a wonderful week together and excited for all that is ahead as we begin another summer of youth ministry.
Summer Youth Programs Are Here: First Week Overview
Our summer programming officially begins next week, and we can’t wait to welcome students back! Make sure to follow us on instagram @Villagepcyouth for the latest news on what’s going on at programs! Here’s what our first week has in store:
Sunday, June 7
The Gathering & Post-Gathering Gathering
Join us for The Gathering from 4:00–5:00 PM as we kick off another summer together. Afterward, students are invited to stick around for Post-Gathering Gathering from 5:00–6:30 PM. We’ll head to the Village Shops to grab dinner (students should bring money if they’d like to purchase food) and spend some time together in conversation and community.
Monday, June 8
Middle School Mondays: Fry Tour
From 7:00–9:00 PM, middle school students will hit the road for a Fry Tour! We’ll visit several locations, sample fries, and rate each stop as we work to determine the ultimate fry champion.
Tuesday, June 9
High School Hangout: Fry Tour
High school students get their turn to travel from 7:00–9:00 PM for an evening of fry tasting, rankings, and friendly debate as we search for the best fries in town.
Wednesday, June 10
Service Day at Kanbe’s Markets
All youth are invited to serve with Kanbe’s Markets from 8:30–11:30 AM. Meet at the church at 8:30 AM and wear closed-toe shoes and clothes that can get a little dirty. Students are welcome, but not required, to stay afterward for lunch with the summer interns. We’ll head out for lunch after the service project (students should bring money if they’d like to purchase food).
Final Call: Summer Trips
There is still time to sign up for two incredible summer experiences:
- Middle School Mission Trip to Denver
- High School Boundary Waters Trip
Registration for both trips will be closing soon. If your student is interested in joining us, be sure to sign up as soon as possible!
