In 2014, Village Presbyterian Church began sponsoring an apartment in conjunction with Hillcrest Transitional Housing offering homeless families, singles and youth a disciplined, educational program with a caring, supportive environment. Hillcrest’s primary objective is to move clients from homelessness to self-sufficiency within 90 days by addressing the total life situation of the families they serve.
Village Church helped with the initial furnishing of our sponsored apartment and we now stock and provide a welcome meal when the apartment turns over to a new family. Email us if you are interested in helping with the next apartment turnover.
Village Church started Front Porch Alliance (FPA) in partnership with Kansas City’s Ivanhoe neighborhood in 1999 in hopes of building a meaningful and supportive relationship with an underserved community. To this day, FPA works hand in hand with Kansas City’s east side residents and community partners to build youth leadership and opportunities for families to make positive, lasting changes in their lives and neighborhoods. Visit the link to read more about volunteer opportunities with Front Porch Alliance.
Since 2002, Johnson County Home-Delivered Meals (formerly Meals on Wheels) has been delivering nutritious meals to homebound, elderly and those with disabilities and their spouses, age 60 years and older, helping them stay independent, healthy and safe at home. Currently, the program serves over 600 individuals each day.
Village Church has three teams who deliver meals every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Each volunteer signs up for one day in the month and if a conflict arises with their regular delivery date, it is easy to trade dates with another team member. Volunteers deliver meals between 10:45 a.m.-noon. Contact us to be placed on the schedule.
Cross-Lines Community Outreach provides people affected by poverty with basic services and opportunities that encourage self-confidence and self-sufficiency. Cross-Lines serves meals at their community annex and brown bag program, operates a food pantry, offers free bilingual nutrition and cooking classes and a community garden.
Every other month on the second Friday, Village Church serves a meal to 150-250 people at the Cross-Lines Kitchen. We need three to four volunteers to cook in the morning, 10-11 a.m., and three to four additional volunteers to help serve, 11 a.m.–1 p.m. We also need folks to provide three to four dozen cookies and drop them off at the Mission Campus reception desk by 4:30 p.m. on the Thursday before Village Friday meal service. Sign up for a date and time below.

Village Church has been a dedicated partner of Habitat KC since 1979. Village has provided funding for a new Habitat KC home build every year since that time, as well as thousands of volunteer hours working on homes in the Kansas City area. A faithful team of Village volunteers work together every Tuesday and Thursday. Or, if you prefer a one-time opportunity, join one of our semiannual Women Build events with folks from both Mission and Antioch campuses.
Email us to get connected with the next available work opportunity. No experience or tools necessary, just enthusiasm!
Help deliver flowers to hospitalized and homebound members after Sunday worship. Arrange and deliver flowers to hospice patients on Mondays. There are also annual opportunities to deliver poinsettias at Advent and lilies at Easter.
Pastoral Care & Counseling committee members work with the pastors to participate, maintain and propose new ways to provide care for our members and the community. Like most Village Church committees, the committee meets once a month (usually third Mondays), and asks volunteers to serve a 3-year term. Contact Linda if you think serving on the Pastoral Care Committee sounds like a way you would like to participate in the life of the church.
Help Chef Teri set up for dinner, maintain the area during the meal, and clean up/wash dishes after. Volunteers eat free at Wednesday Family Dinners!
If you would like to volunteer to help, sign up for a meal at the link below (make sure to choose the correct date). There will be a place in the dinner sign up where you can indicate you would like to volunteer.
The mission of the Computer Ministry is to provide rebuilt personal computers and training in basic computer skills to selected charitable organizations in the Kansas City area. The Computer Ministry was established in 2001 on a foundation of friendship and relationships. The ministry has developed partnerships with Habitat for Humanity and other not-for-profit organizations.
There are two ways you can help:
Donate Used Tech Equipment: Team members remove all private data from every PC donated to the ministry. The computer’s operating system is then reconfigured as appropriate for its intended application, and new software is installed before donation to a strategic partner organization. The following pieces of equipment are accepted:
Apple iMac or Macintosh models cannot be accepted
Windows 10 or Windows 11 desktop computers or laptops
Working LCD or LED monitors (at least 20 inch)
Keyboard and mouse
Power cables
CD-ROM, CD Writer or DVD Writer drives
Laser-type Printers (no Inkjet printers)
Refurbish Used Tech Equipment: Team members analyze donated PCs and test components to determine how to best utilize the equipment. Usable components are combined to build working computers for the ministry’s strategic partners (charitable or educational institutions). Each volunteer may choose tasks that best suit his or her interests and abilities. Refurbishing Team working sessions meet 7-9 p.m. Tuesdays at the Tillotson Building (Food Pantry): Enter the front sliding doors, then proceed to the far right door. One-on-one orientation sessions are held periodically for new volunteers; email us to let us know you’re interested.
Come play and take care of the youngest Village attendees during worship on Sundays! Rock a baby, read a book to a toddler, color a picture, play trucks, or have a pretend tea party. All while allowing the parents of these tiny tots to attend service knowing that their children are being cared for and loved in a safe environment. Volunteers will be trained and are required to have a background check completed by Village before volunteering with children. Be placed on a rotating schedule, or let us know when you’re able to volunteer. Volunteers may work during any service at either campus.

Ushers offer the gift of hospitality to our members and visitors. Ushering is a unique opportunity which includes three main responsibilities: greeting worshippers, passing out bulletins and help collect the offering. Research shows that when guests are greeted and recognized that they are more likely to return, join and get connected. The work of ushers actually supports the ministers and church staff by the service of hospitality they offer.
VERT (Village Emergency Response Team) members receive training and serve as a responder to any medical emergencies that may arise during Sunday worship or other large Village Church gatherings, until professional medical attention arrives.

On Sunday mornings before worship (8:45-8:55 a.m.), Children’s Ministry needs folks on the 1st floor and 3rd floor in the education wing to be a hospitable presence and assist parents in finding the right Lighthouse class for their kids. Volunteer for a month, once per month or when your schedule allows.
Teach a Lighthouse class—open to flexible schedules such as teaching a semester, a certain Sunday of the month, quarterly, or rotating (lessons and materials provided). Classes range from preschool through 6th grade.

Each unit of Lighthouse classes (Sunday School) requires shopping for rotational classroom supplies. We provide a list, quantities, places to go, and money – you have fun!
Stuff worship bags for children to use on Sunday mornings (approx. 1 hour per week and once a month)
Like to clean, straighten up, and organize? We often need help organizing resources and/or classrooms or helping in the Children & Family Ministry Office with projects.
Like to bake? How about providing occasional goodies if called? (i.e., cookies for Advent Family Workshop decorating, teacher appreciation gifts or receptions.)
We are seeking volunteers to help answer the phones at either campus for a few hours at a time during business hours. The phone system is very easy to learn, it’s a great place to see lots of people, and it’s an ideal position if you are interested in a volunteer job that doesn’t require a regular commitment.

We couldn’t do youth ministry without the support of amazing volunteers. With many programs going on throughout the year, we have lots of opportunities for you to help.
Youth Group Leader: In addition to our staff, we have several adult volunteers who attend either Village Middle or Village High youth group meetings each week. Students in 10th grade or higher are also eligible to be leaders at Village Middle. Typically this commitment is for one school year, but occasionally leaders roll on or off at the semester.
Middle School Hangout: This after-school program has historically been very popular, so we appreciate having additional adults (and high schoolers) simply to have eyes around the room and be able to interact and get to know students. This is a great opportunity for someone who is interested in helping out every once in a while, but isn’t able to commit weekly.
Confirmation Small Group Leader: Each Confirmation class (end of January through end of April) is taught by one of our youth directors or another departmental director or pastor. But, the class is broken into small discussion groups led by adults like you! Group leaders maintain the same group each class. It’s always a rewarding experience helping facilitate students growing in their faith and a great opportunity for adults to learn as well.
Event Driver: Occasionally, youth ministry will attend an offsite event in the area. We always need more adult drivers to lend a hand transporting all the kids to the new location and getting everyone back safely.
