Serve at Village

Scripture Readers

Scripture readers assist in worship by reading the Scripture preceding the sermon. We welcome volunteer of all ages—children regularly serve as scripture readers on Family Worship Sundays.

For Mission Campus, contact Ellen Gatewood: or 913-671-2370. For Antioch Campus, contact Rev. Anna Owens: or 913-671-2372.

Sacristy

The Sacristy Committee is responsible for preparing the elements for the Lord’s Supper and maintaining the communion ware and table linens. For Sunday communion, preparation begins on Saturday morning when we cut bread and fill cups with juice. We finish setting the tables in the Sanctuary and the Narthex Sunday morning and clean everything up after the last service. The committee meets once a year, in January, to sign up for the communion dates approved by Session.

New volunteers are needed and welcome at any time throughout the year.

Helping Hands

Helping Hands volunteers provide meals or assist with basic household tasks, yard work, etc. for members. All tasks are short-term and are a blessing to those home from the hospital or who have just welcomed a new baby. A request will be emailed—respond if you can help.

Stephen Ministry

The Village Church Stephen Ministry program pairs people who are experiencing challenges in their lives with specially trained members of the church who are equipped to listen, care for, and provide emotional and spiritual support. This one-on-one Christian care is confidential and available to church members and the wider community at no cost. Become a Stephen Minister at Village!

Stephen Ministry is an international ministry based in St. Louis which has provided spiritual support to over 1.5 million people worldwide in over 13,000 congregations.

Garden Maintenance

Village has four community garden areas that need seasonal upkeep. We need green thumbs! If you don’t have those, a set of hands will do.

• Community Gardens (Food Pantry & Antioch Campus): The Village Community Gardens offers opportunities for individuals of all ages to participate in service work. Every growing season from March through October, the garden needs volunteers to plant, water, weed and harvest crops. All produce harvested from the garden is donated to the Village Food Pantry located on the same grounds as the garden. Contact .
• Pollinator Gardens (Food Pantry & Antioch Campus): The majority of the plants in this garden are drought-tolerant, flowering plants that support our native bees and butterflies through their full life cycle by providing nectar, pollen and acting as host plants for their young. Please consider assisting with the maintenance of these important gardens. Contact .
• Prayer Labyrinth (Food Pantry): The prayer labyrinth is a space to walk, reflect and pray. The garden around is designed to grow into a living screen around the labyrinth. The arborvitae anchors the garden with several native shrubs and flowers filling the space between them. Coral honeysuckle grows over the entrance arbor attracting hummingbirds and butterflies. Please consider assisting with the maintenance of this beautiful prayer labyrinth. Contact .
