November Sermon Series: “God’s Gift of Generosity”

Rev. Dr. Karl Travis had been healthy all of his life until he embarked upon a painful seven-year struggle to finally discover a diagnosis of a rare disease. He was given a few months to live. As he was writing his funeral service, he picked up a manuscript he had started years ago titled, “God’s Gift of Generosity.” In his preface, he noted how odd it may seem to write about God’s generosity in his condition. But Karl found that as he faced this terminal illness, more than anything, he leaned into the generosity of God. In this sermon series, starting Nov. 9, Rev. Dr. Rodger Nishioka will explore the three facets of generosity that Dr. Travis highlights in his book, published last year.

a note from

Judy

“I so love the Village Church. I started going in 1952. Rev. Bob Meneilly was the minister then. It was a little church, and Dr. Bob and his wife lived in the little house next door. When they moved the steeple to the new big church, I was a student at Prairie Elementary School [across the street] and they let us out to watch. I have lived in Lees Summit for over 25 years and I haven’t been there since. I would like to help you all with a donation, but I live on Social Security and my Army retirement—and I can’t afford to give a donation. I’m so very sorry. Please continue to send me emails regarding what’s going on at the church.”

an email received on Oct. 29, 2025 in response to an update about our ‘Be the Church’ service day at both campuses—sharing the good news about what we were able to accomplish together in one hour for the Food Pantry and our other mission partners.
