How to help Texas Hill Country and Presbyteries

Our hearts are broken after the catastrophic flash flooding in the Hill Country of central Texas on July 4-5. The floods resulted in more than 100 lives lost; search and rescue efforts are ongoing. Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) is coordinating a response and assessing needs with the Synod of the Sun Presbyterian Disaster Network and Mission Presbytery—including emotional and spiritual care. You can support their efforts HERE.

First Presbyterian Church of Kerrville, Texas is also receiving donations for flood relief. All monetary donations will go directly toward supplies and helping cover expenses incurred by families affected by the disaster. (As you visit the giving portal, use the drop-down menu and select ‘Flood Relief Fund.’) Thank you.

“Lighting a path” in Montreat, NC

Seventeen high-school students, two interns, and two Village Church staff members began their annual week at the Montreat Youth Conference on Saturday, July 5. (All but four are pictured here after an early hike Tuesday morning.) The theme this year is “Light my Path,” drawing from Psalm 119:105, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light unto my path.” Through worship, fun, music, and practices of gratitude, they will cultivate their spiritual lives and practice Sabbath—inspiring them for a lifetime of faith. Let us continue to pray for their experience and the trip home.

Loving Kindness Prayer

Hear these words from author, teacher, and friend of Village Church, Ginger Rothhaas:
When we feel helpless or don’t know what to do with our compassionate hearts, the Loving Kindness prayer is a good place to start. This is an ancient practice of sending and receiving love that offers us something to do when we feel powerless and need to find a place for our love to go.
Bring to mind the people who lost a beloved family member and pray, “May they feel wrapped in love. May they find strength to continue. May they feel a moment of comfort.” Bring to mind rescue workers and volunteers and pray, “May they feel wrapped in love. May they find strength to continue. May they feel a moment of comfort.” Bring to mind all people who feel sad, vulnerable, or are struggling to find hope, “May they feel wrapped in love. May they find strength to continue. May they feel a moment of comfort.” Amen.

When we lead with kindness, we tap into a sense of abundance—realizing that we have enough love, time, and compassion to share. Thank you for the many ways you support the ministries of Village Church!
