Sacristy

The Sacristy Committee is responsible for preparing the elements for the Lord’s Supper and maintaining the communion ware and table linens. For Sunday communion, preparation begins on Saturday morning when we cut bread and fill cups with juice. We finish setting the tables in the Sanctuary and the Narthex Sunday morning and clean everything up after the last service. The committee meets once a year, in January, to sign up for the communion dates approved by Session.

New volunteers are needed and welcome at any time throughout the year.

Helping Hands

Helping Hands volunteers assist with basic household tasks, yard work or provide meals to church members who may need help, such as the elderly, infirm, housebound, or those caring for new babies or aging relatives. All tasks are short-term; simply let our volunteer coordinator know what type of schedule or time commitment you are able to accommodate and we can help find a good fit.

Stephen Ministry

The Village Church Stephen Ministry program pairs people who are experiencing difficulties in their lives with specially trained members of the church who are equipped to listen, care for, and provide emotional and spiritual support. This one-to-one Christian care is confidential and available to church members and the wider community at no cost. Become a Stephen Minister at Village!

Memorial Service Host

Become a member of the Memorial Guild. Ushers will greet guests attending a memorial service, and reception volunteers host a reception following a memorial service. Read more about memorial services at Village.

Food Pantry & Clothes Closet

About 170 volunteers staff the Food Pantry and Clothes Closet each month. Volunteers generally work one morning or afternoon shift per week. Volunteers must be at least 14 years old and minors must be accompanied by an adult.

Available Shifts:

• Monday-Friday — 9 a.m.-noon or noon-2:30 p.m.
• Saturday — 9-11:30 a.m.

​Positions include:​

• Scheduling and receiving clients
• Shopping with clients
• Sorting and stocking groceries
• Sorting clothes
• Staffing truck/van pick-ups and deliveries
• Loading and unloading trucks and vans
• Data entry and filing
• Welcoming visitors and answering phones

Garden Maintenance

Village has five community garden areas that need seasonal upkeep. We need green thumbs! If you don’t have those, a set of hands will do.

• Community Garden (Food Pantry): The Village Community Garden offers opportunities for individuals of all ages to participate in service work. Every growing season from March through October, the garden needs volunteers to plant, water, weed and harvest crops. All produce harvested from the garden is donated to the Village Food Pantry located on the same grounds as the garden. Contact Mission Ministry.
• Community Garden (Antioch Campus): This vegetable garden needs maintenance in the spring, summer and fall months. The produce from this garden goes to the Village Food Pantry. Contact Laura Assyia.
• Memorial Garden (Mission Campus): Volunteers share their time and energy to keep the Memorial Garden at Mission Campus a beautiful and peaceful place. Tasks include light weeding, checking that floral arrangements are fresh, and maintaining garden policies. Contact Bob Sperry.
• Pollinator Garden (Food Pantry): The majority of the plants in this garden are drought-tolerant, flowering plants that support our native bees and butterflies through their full life cycle by providing nectar, pollen and acting as host plants for their young. This garden is a certified monarch waystation with several species of milkweed. Please consider assisting with the maintenance of this important garden. Contact Mission Ministry.
• Prayer Labyrinth (Food Pantry): The prayer labyrinth is a space to walk, reflect and pray. The garden around is designed to grow into a living screen around the labyrinth. The arborvitae anchors the garden with several native shrubs and flowers filling the space between them. Coral honeysuckle grows over the entrance arbor attracting hummingbirds and butterflies.
