Home Communion Volunteers Share Impact

Members of the Mission Sewing group pose with Rev. Melanie Hardison (center), pastor for pastoral care, with linens sewn by the group for use in home communion baskets.

Village volunteers have been a tremendous support of our Home Communion ministry. We are thrilled to be allowed into the homes of nearly 30 recipients. Our volunteers serve in teams of two and provide a touchpoint from Village Church in the comfort of their homes. Here are a few comments from those who are involved in this ministry:

“Home communion is so appreciated by the Village members I have visited. We have found that many of the members enjoy sharing their memories of Village Church. We learned why they chose to join Village and what service opportunities they enjoyed. In other words, we received a history lesson on most visits! I have felt an impact making a connection with the members while serving communion, sharing scripture, and praying at each visit. The opportunity to serve communion makes me realize how important of an outreach it is to Village members who cannot attend worship in person.” –Joy Mae Johnson

“I have really enjoyed getting to know congregants who are not able to attend church, and I have enjoyed getting to know other elders. This ministry does take a few hours on Sundays, but it is worth it. Some people are quite able to express their appreciation. Others have limited communication, but they are all grateful. I am hoping someone with a joyful heart will deliver this ministry to me or my loved ones someday. I don’t think anyone wants to be forgotten—least of all those who have been members.” –Cristy Roberts

“I am so grateful for the opportunity serving home communion provides to meet so many wonderful, deserving individuals. At the end of an afternoon of visits, I feel joyful knowing I’ve had a hand in positively impacting the recipients’ lives. So many of them have said how much they appreciate receiving home communion because they are unable to attend church in person. I treasure the relationships that I have been with those I’ve been blessed to visit on a regular basis.” –Jacquie Hill
