Islam: A Religion of Peace
The word "Islam" is derived from the root words "Silm" and "Salam" which mean peace. Peace can only exist if justice is maintained in society. Unfortunately, because of the events in the Middle East the last fifty years, Islam has been linked to terrorists and terrorism. This course will focus on the following: What is the basic principle of Islam? What is the approach of Islam to terrorism? How do Muslims explain "chad?" (jihad in Arabic). What are the contributions of Islam to world peace? Taught by Fatih Fozcan from Ankara, Turkey, who toured with groups from Village Church throughout his home country. Currently completing his Master's degree at Park University, Fatih initiated the Kansas branch of the Institute of Interfaith Dialogue. Tuesdays, March 24 and 31. 6:30-8:00pm. Room 132.
