An Opportunity to Receive Counseling
With Dr. John Larsen
We profess that there is a light that shines in the darkness and the darkness did not (and cannot and will not) overcome it. Sometimes there are those who help add to the light of Christ, and sometimes we need them to help us through the darkness.
Pastoral Care at Village Presbyterian Church is pleased to offer counseling for such times. Dr.
John Larsen, licensed psychologist and long time practitioner in Kansas City, offers individual and couples counseling at Village on Tuesdays and Thursdays. He has practiced psychology for over thirty years, serving most of that time as Clinical Director of Midwest Christian Counseling Center on the Plaza. He and his wife of 43 years have two sons. Dr. Larsen is a graduate of Bethel University (MN), and holds a Master of Divinity degree from Duke University and a Ph.D. from Boston University. He counsels adults with a wide variety of concerns, including marital and relationship issues. Trained in the integration of theology and psychology, Dr. Larsen is sensitive to how spirituality can enter into emotional and relationship struggles. He is skilled at bringing faith resources to bear on the counseling process where appropriate.
Counseling with Dr. Larsen, who offices in the Bride’s Room near the Chapel, will be short-term. If lengthy counseling is necessary, Dr. Larsen will work with you on receiving further care.
To Schedule an Appointment
Any of our pastors are pleased to visit with you about your interest in and the appropriateness of counseling. A pastor can assist you with a referral. Dr. Larsen sets his own schedule so you must contact him directly at 913.322.4235 to make an appointment. He will complete an initial evaluation session, review terms of counseling, discuss your goals, and explain confidentiality. You will be asked to complete an intake form and sign a counseling agreement. When appropriate, Dr. Larsen may ask you to sign a release to coordinate care with a pastor with whom you have shared a concern. If you do not wish for there to be any communication between Dr. Larsen and the pastoral staff, please indicate that to him at the beginning of counseling.
Fees
Although the cost of counseling is highly subsidized by Village Presbyterian Church, a suggested fee of $45 will be expected at the time of counseling. We do not want to turn anyone away due to an inability to pay, so if the $45 fee is unrealistic for your budget we can work with you on an adjustment. Checks are payable to Village Presbyterian Church. Please note that the fee paid to the church is not tax-deductible because you will be receiving a service from the church.
(Note: A $25 charge will be due if clients cancel an appointment within 24 hours of a scheduled visit with Dr. Larsen. Thank you for your cooperatoin.)
