Pastoral Care Ministries 

 

 

Connection Luncheons

Four times per year the Pastoral Care Department sponsors luncheons, along with worship and communion services at local assisted living facilities that have a large concentration of Village Church members. Two luncheons are held in the Spring and two in the Fall. The location rotates in order to serve as many as possible.

 

Easter Lilies and Christmas Poinsettias

These floral expressions of God’s love and the support of Village Church are delivered to homebound members who are no longer able to attend services at the church. Volunteers from the congregation make these deliveries.

 

Home Communion

If you or someone you love is unable to attend worship to receive the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper, a Pastor and Elder or Deacon can bring the Sacrament to the home or retirement community to celebrate the holy meal. This is also done on a large scale in the Spring and Fall of each year. Contact Sandy Perry at 913.671.2327 or by e-mail.

 

Intercessory Prayer Group

This group gathers to focus on the Intercessory Prayer List, offering thoughts and prayer for members and friends of Village Church. The Intercessory Prayer Group meets on the third Wednesday of each month from 10:00-11:00 a.m. in Room 124.

 

Memorial Garden

The Garden offers a serene final resting place outdoors.  Bronze markers are ordered through the church business office at 913.671.2363. The Memorial Garden is available to members only. Site selection is made at the time of need and accommodates cremains only. A volunteer committee oversees the Memorial Garden.

 

Military Care Packages

Care packages or gift cards along with Christmas cards are sent once per year to members and friends of Village Church serving in the military.  

 

Mobile Resource Center

This portable center contains a wide variety of printed Pastoral Care and Counseling resources including The Last Acts of Love, Care Notes, local resources, health information, ministry brochures, etc. During the week it is located just to the right of the south entrance reception desk. On Sundays you will find the center in Friendship Hall.

 

Remembrance Service

This service is held the first Sunday of December at 5:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary for families who have lost loved ones in recent years. It is a service of prayers, special music, proclamation and candle lighting in honor of those who are deeply missed. It is our hope that grieving members and friends will make this service a part of their holiday experience. Contact Sandy Perry at 913.671.2327 or by e-mail.

 

Respite Care

If you are a caregiver for someone in your home, we can match you with a friend who can relieve you from your daily responsibilities in caring for a few hours. “Respite” is a time of rest and renewal of one’s spirit and strength. Respite Friends are lay people trained to provide respite and offer companion-level assistance and reassurance to the care receiver. Contact Rev. Meg Peery McLaughlin, 913.671.2375 or by e-mail. Stephen Ministry 

If you are going through a difficult life transition, we can match you with a caring listener who is trustworthy, full of faith, compassionate and skilled. Stephen Ministers are lay people who go through 50 hours of training and feel called to come alongside those who are hurting. Visit the Stephen Ministry page.

 

Village Nurses:  Health and Wellness Ministry

• The Village Nurses offer blood pressure checks, support, nutritional advice, referrals and education before and after worship every Sunday at Village Church.  

• The second Sunday of each month from 9:00 to 9:30 and again from 10:30-11:00 you may have your hearing aid inspected at Village Church. This includes checking your ears for wax and insuring the proper insertion of your hearing aid.  

• The Village Nurses also offer blood pressure screenings, support, nutritional advice, referrals and education at the Food Pantry throughout the week.

 

Village Visitors

If you or someone you love is homebound, we can provide a friendly visitor to help remind us all that we are connected in the family of faith. Village Visitors visit in homes or retirement communities to pray and be present, to laugh and to listen.
