- Operation Breakthrough: This is a wonderful opportunity to link up with children who are part of The Operation Breakthrough program at 31st and Troost. The children, ages 4 and 5, are bussed to Village each Wednesday morning at 9:45 for six weeks in the spring and fall. Adult volunteers each take a child by the hand and go to the Loft where we all sing interactive songs and listen to a story read by an adult. Following the story, everyone goes to Room 307 to make a craft that is connected to the book that was read. When they complete their project, each child receives a snack, a bottle of water and two books of their choosing. These books are read to the children one-on-one while they eat their snack. The books are theirs to keep and take home. Weather permitting, outside play ends each session before they return to their bus at 11:00. These children love coming to Village where they feel special and loved by each "friend" with whom they share their hour and 15 minutes. The adults love the experience of being with these precious children. Contact LeAne, e-mail.
